■ Position Overview 

We are looking for backend engineers to build (or rebuild!), fantastic services with a focus on scalability and maintainability.

Our client is revolutionizing the credit card industry, making payments easier than ever, from two different angles:

• Bring the credit card experience to the next level: there are many functionalities in the pipe to improve the product, not to mention the integration into the larger ecosystem.

• (Re-)architect the systems landscape: reassess and fix the “behind-the-scenes” to power an amazing user experience. It is bundled with difficult design challenges to solve to get it right.

 

You need to be versatile and enthusiastic to take on new challenges in order to stay at the forefront, and strive for continuous improvement. ■ Your Role and Responsibilities 

• Support the design, implementation and delivery of large scale, and complex, systems, while collaborating with product managers, frontend engineers or other team members.

• Understand how to leverage infrastructure to solve large scale problems.

• Contribute to the team by sharing knowledge, participating in code reviews and providing feedback to uphold and ensure best practices.

• Triage, debug and resolve product issues or other incoming troubles inquiries

• Adopt problem solving as a way of life – always go to the root cause! Support the code you write in production.

 

■ Tech Stack

The current tech stack is below, though with a solid tech culture, new technologies may be introduced as  they become available.

 

• Back-end services: 

o Main implementations are in Spring Boot, with a mix of Java 11/Spring Boot 2 and Java 17/Spring Boot 3. 

o Some legacy systems are written in Java EE.

o Testing is done with JUnit and Mockito

o Deployment relies on AWS ECS 

o CI/CD is handled by AWS CodePipeline 

• Infrastructure 

o All our services run in AWS

o Infrastructure is managed by AWS CloudFormation

o AWS CloudWatch is used for observability

• Coding environment: GitHub, IntelliJ, Gradle

• Documentation & Project management: Confluence, Miro, JIRA

• Communication: Slack, Zoom, Office 365

 

■ Experience and Qualifications

• Experience in using Spring Boot in a professional environment.

• Experience with RDBMS, NoSQL databases along with distributed cache.

• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and object oriented programming.

• In-depth understanding of concurrency and distributed computing.

• Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or 5+ years equivalent experience in SaaS platform development.

• English business proficiency

 

■ Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with implementing platform components such as RESTful APIs, Pub/Sub Systems, Database Clients.

• Experience in system design for high traffic application with scalability in mind

• Experience in microservices & event-driven architecture 

• Experience in a multicultural environment

• Japanese conversational proficiency is a plus

 

■ Other Points and Working Conditions

• This is a full-time position

• If you are not currently a resident of Japan, you must relocate to Japan, but you can live anywhere in Japan and work fully remotely if you wish

• Super flex working hours

■ Work Location

Of course there are offices, but you can live anywhere in Japan you like and work fully remotely if that's your vibe!

 

■ Salary 

￥7,000,000 - ￥12,000,000 (Japanese Yen, per annum)

** Salary review is twice yearly, and bonuses are paid twice yearly according to both company and individual performance. **
